Hartz UltraGuard Pro Reflective Flea & Tick Collar review
The budget shelf pick, with a reflective strip for evening walks.
How it performed
At its shelf price this is almost impulse-buy cheap, and the reflective strip is a real, useful feature for dark winter walks.
But cheap per collar is not cheap per season. Protection tailed off long before the claimed window, and I ended up wanting a replacement inside a couple of months.
It also produced the only skin irritation I saw in the whole test, a patch of redness under the band on my thinner-coated dog, which is why it sits last.
What we liked
- Cheapest entry point on this list by a wide margin
- Also targets flea eggs and larvae, not just adults
- Reflective strip adds visibility on dark walks
- Fits necks up to 26 inches
What held it back
- Lowest owner satisfaction here — plenty of reports of fleas surviving
- Scented band bothers sensitive dogs, which is exactly why testers moved to the #1 pick
